Oadby and Wigston comes Seventh in the Country for its Waste Collection Performance - 28/01/2010

According to figures produced annually by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council ranks as the seventh best performing Waste Collection Authority in the Country for the lowest amount of residual waste collected per person per annum in kilograms.

The best performing Council collects 161.4 kilograms per person per annum and Oadby and Wigston collects 167.5 kilograms.

Of the seven districts in Leicestershire, Charnwood Borough Council is the next highest performer at twenty fifth out of two hundred and seventy three local authorities in Great Britain.

Councillor Bill Boulter, Chair of the Council’s Residents' Services Committee says, “This is great news and shows how committed the residents of the Borough are to minimising the amount of waste they produce. With climate change issues becoming more and more important, residents should be proud that they are helping to lead the way to reduce waste and protect the environment.”
