Discounts available for a reduction in Council Tax

A 100 percent Council Tax charge assumes that at least two adults (persons aged 18 or over) are resident in the property.

If only one adult is resident a 25 percent discount is given.

If a property is not occupied by any person as their main home discounts of 0 percent, 10 percent or 50 percent may apply, contact us for more information.

Certain categories of people are disregarded when counting the number of adults resident in a dwelling.

If the number of remaining adults is one, after any who are disregarded have been allowed for, then a 25 percent discount may be claimed. If it is nil then a 50 percent discount may be claimed.

The categories of people who may be disregarded include full-time students, student nurses, apprentices and youth training trainees, 18 and 19 year olds who have just left school, the severely mentally impaired, persons caring for someone with a disability who is not a spouse, partner, or child under 18, members of religious communities and diplomats.
